NEW HAVEN, Vt. (AP) - Free checks of child safety seats are being offered at the New Haven barracks of the Vermont State Police.

The Saturday event at the barracks on U.S. Route 7 will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A leading cause of death within the United States for children between the ages of 1 and 13 years old is motor vehicle crashes. The correct installation and use of car seats, booster seats, and seat belts is one of the most important actions that can be taken to prevent serious injury and death in crashes.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to bring the children who will be using the car seat or booster seat. People are also encouraged to bring the owners’ manuals for their vehicles and car seats.
