DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - Officials in eastern Iowa plan to gather later this month to mark the start of construction on a new $4.55 million headquarters for the Scott County sheriff’s department.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be held in Eldridge, Iowa, on May 24 as long as the weather cooperates.

The project is being overseen by Wold Architects and Engineers of Palatine, Illinois. Conlon Construction of Dubuque, Iowa, will build the new 21,000-square-foot headquarters.

The new facility is expected to be completed next April.
