MADISON, N.J. (AP) - Basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has told students graduating from a New Jersey college to customize the American Dream to fit their own goals.

Abdul-Jabbar delivered a commencement address at Drew University in Madison on Saturday.

The Daily Records reports (https://dailyre.co/1WzC45g ) that he told the 442 graduating students that they “have been screwed over the same way every generation has been screwed over when handed the reins to the American Dream.”

He says the American Dream worth dreaming is making an opportunity for a better life available to everyone.

The basketball hall of famer was given an honorary degree and received a Drew basketball jersey with his name and number 33.
