BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - An off-duty city firefighter has died in a car crash.

City officials say Jimmy Jones was traveling south on Bishop Avenue just before 3 p.m. Saturday when he lost control of his vehicle, striking a parked, unoccupied pickup truck and then hitting a utility pole.

Some of Jones’ truck mates responded to the scene and extricated Jones from his vehicle and performed CPR.

The 35-year-old Jones was taken to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

One of his passengers, a 37-year-old woman, was taken to Bridgeport Hospital in critical condition.

Jones’ 15-year-old son suffered a broken leg and is expected to be released from the hospital.

Jones was a Bridgeport firefighter for more than eight years.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
