BAR HARBOR, Maine (AP) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture is giving more than $160,000 to the Greater Portland Council of Governments and to the College of the Atlantic to develop renewable energy.

The council of governments will get $100,000 while the college will receive a little more than $64,000.

Sens. Angus King and Susan Collins of Maine say the council of governments plans to use the money to identify renewable energy technologies for agricultural producers and small rural businesses.

College of the Atlantic plans to use its money to educate business owners and farmers in Hancock County about solar energy options.

King is an Independent and Collins is a Republican.
