BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The Burlington Discover Jazz Fest has been awarded a $25,000 Our Town grant for efforts in blending arts and culture with community revitalization initiatives.
Chelsea Lafayette, the festival’s marketing and development manager, tells WPTZ-TV (https://bit.ly/254aD8Q ) that organizers plan to use Jazz Fest events to highlight the Vermont city’s transportation resources.
National Endowment for the Arts officials say the festival’s grant proposal was selected because it will bring attention to Burlington’s lesser-known transportation options through use of Jazz Fest themes.
Festival officials say the funding will be put toward staging pop-up music performances and art showcases at nontraditional venues - such as bus stations or bike paths - in the coming years.
The first pop-up performance is expected to be held next spring.
