METAIRIE, La. (AP) - Jefferson Parish sheriff’s deputies say two women died when the convertible they were riding in wrapped around a utility pole.

The accident happened around 7:30 a.m. Monday on the Interstate 10 Service Road in Metairie.

Sheriff’s spokesman, Col. John Fortunato, identified the driver as 24-year-old Madison Comeaux of Metairie and passenger, 38-year-old Jaclyn St. Romain, of Slidell.

Traffic fatality investigator Anthony Cannatella says the Ford Mustang convertible exited I-10 after being involved a hit-and-run accident.

Cannatella says the Mustang then got on the service road traveling at a high rate of speed and hit another car. He says Comeaux lost control, the car overturned and skidded into the pole.

Both women died at the scene.
