OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) - A re-enactment of a historic gunfight that happened in western Kentucky over 150 years ago will take place at this year’s Spring Heritage Days Festival in Rockport, Indiana.

The Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer reports (https://bit.ly/1TjyN6J ) re-enactors will stage the fight on May 21 and May 22 at the Lincoln Pioneer Village.

Friends of Lincoln Pioneer Village President Diane Unfried says the gunfight took place in Hawesville on March 1, 1859, between Cicero Maxwell and Thomas S. Lowe.

Unfried says Lowe felt he had been insulted Maxwell, who was the commonwealth’s attorney for Hancock County. Words were exchanged and Lowe challenged Maxwell.

John Aldridge, a friend of Lowe, was killed in the exchange of gunfire. Lowe was killed later while being held in jail.

Aldridge’s great-great grandson, Wayne Aldridge of Evansville, will participate in the re-enactment.
