PITTSBURGH (AP) - A preliminary hearing was postponed for a man punched and pushed by a Pittsburgh police officer facing federal civil rights charges.

The attorney for 20-year-old Gabriel Despres, of South Park, declined comment on Monday’s postponement. Despres now faces a June 16 hearing on charged of defiant trespass, underage drinking and public drunkenness.

Since-fired Pittsburgh police sergeant Stephen Matakovich has pleaded not guilty to charges he violated the man’s rights while arresting Despres at a high school championship football game at Heinz Field in November.

Matakovich has testified that Despres was threatening.

Surveillance video forwarded to city police by the Pittsburgh Steelers - who run the stadium - showed Despres standing with his hands at his sides and not advancing before Matakovich pushed down Despres then struck him in the face.
