HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A Madison County assistant district attorney has been reassigned to non-courtroom duties after being arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

Media outlets report that according to jail records, Thomas Paul Barnett was arrested Saturday morning. He was released on a $1,000 bond the same day. No further details have been released.

Madison County District Attorney Robert L. Broussard said during a news conference on Monday that Barnett made a mistake. Broussard said Barnett will act in a support role in the district attorney’s office until the criminal charge is resolved and he can resume prosecuting cases.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Barnett has an attorney.
