DENVER (AP) - Police say a driver hit five vehicles in suburban Denver, then stole an SUV at the crash scene and drove it a short distance before hitting another nine cars.

Thornton police spokesman Matt Barnes tells The Denver Post (https://goo.gl/mZeaGR ) the woman, whose name hasn’t been released, sideswiped four vehicles and rear-ended a Cadillac Escalade on Monday afternoon. When the driver of the Escalade got out to check the damage, the woman who caused the crashes jumped into the SUV and drove off.

Barnes says she hit another nine cars at an intersection in nearby Northglenn.

The woman was taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation, which will be part of the investigation.

Two drivers, one in Thornton and one in Northglenn, were taken to a hospital. Police have not said why the woman crashed into the vehicles.
