SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Police in central New York say a man was stabbed multiple times while trying to help a 70-year-old woman who was also stabbed multiple times.

Syracuse police say the 21-year-old man was able to disarm the suspect during the stabbing Sunday night.

Police say the elderly woman was stabbed in her upper body and head area. The man was stabbed in his left shoulder and bicep. Both have been hospitalized and are expected to survive.

Authorities say they’ve arrested 56-year-old Deloris Miller of Syracuse. Miller faces a felony assault charge and a misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon charge.

Police say Miller knew both victims. The motive for the stabbings isn’t immediately known.

Miller’s being held in the Onondaga County jail. It wasn’t immediately known if she has a lawyer.
