NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) - Police say a weekend Amber Alert was key to the return of a North Las Vegas toddler who was allegedly taken from her mother by two people now facing felony kidnapping and auto theft charges.

Officer Ann Cavaricci said Monday that investigators are still trying to determine why the child was taken.

Her mother was found about 2:45 a.m. Saturday with facial injuries outside a home near Craig Road and Allen Way.

Cavaricci says 23-year-old Dennis Otley Gentle and 21-year-old Samantha Nicole Campbell are accused of taking the girl and the mother’s vehicle.

They allegedly left the girl with a man who brought her to police after an Amber Alert was issued after 10 a.m. Saturday.

Cavaricci says the girl appears unharmed.

Gentle and Campbell are jailed pending court appearances.
