ORMOND BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Police say a pedestrian is dead after being struck by a train in Ormond Beach.

Spokesman Keith Walker says the incident happened Sunday night on a trestle bridge behind a restaurant on U.S. 1. Authorities have not released the person’s identity.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal (https://bit.ly/22dpKI1 ) reports the person was sitting on the bridge as the southbound train approached. The conductor blew the whistle and the person tried to run to safety.

Walker says the track is operated by Florida East Coast Railway.

No further details were immediately available.
