SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say they’ve indicted 72 people who are accused of being involved in a major drug ring operating between New York City and central New York.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman (SHNEYE’-dur-muhn), along with state and local police officials, announced Tuesday many of the suspects were arrested in raids Monday and Tuesday in the Syracuse area.

Officials say the raids targeted two separate heroin and cocaine distribution rings. One was an upstate-downstate operation and another sold cocaine in suburban Syracuse and neighboring Oswego County.

Schneiderman says police seized 10,750 baggies of heroin, more than a pound of cocaine, 86 oxycodone and hydrocodone pills, 18 firearms and $40,000 in cash.

In addition to state police and Syracuse police, the 11-month investigation involved several other local and federal law enforcement agencies.
