SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - The Springfield Arson & Bomb Squad is investigating a fire in the Massachusetts city’s Upper Hill section that displaced a dozen residents and caused roughly $80,000 in damage.
Fire officials say the blaze was reported just before 11 a.m. Monday at a multi-family home on Wilbraham Road. Fire crews arrived on-scene to find flames shooting from an attic window on the building’s third floor.
Ladder 1 firefighters used a chainsaw to carve a hole in the roof of the home to fight the blaze.
One firefighter suffered a minor ankle injury and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported.
Investigators determined the fire originated on the building’s second floor.
