CANON CITY, Colo. (AP) - A 57-year-old inmate who collapsed at the Fremont County Jail died of natural causes.

The Canon City Daily Record reports (https://goo.gl/xzy5Bz ) Gregory Smith, of Colorado Springs, was working in the kitchen when he collapsed the morning of March 9. County Coroner Randy Keller says the inmate died from cardiac arrest.

Smith was a former correctional officer who was serving a 100-day sentence on sex assault charges that stem from incidents at the Arrowhead Correctional Center, where he had worked for 10 years.

Prosecutors say he made sexually harassing comments to inmates and grabbed their genitals. He also was accused of asking to see inmates’ genitals and bringing at least one of them pornography and marijuana.
