GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) - A junior high school student reportedly hacked into the email system of Gilbert Public Schools and sent inappropriate messages to other students.

District officials say the Highland Junior High student got access to the teacher’s login information and emailed messages to other students over the weekend.

They say the technology department quickly disabled the teacher and student accounts.

A letter from the Highland Junior High’s principal says two messages were sent out before the accounts were deactivated.

The letter says Mesa Police and the FBI have been contacted about the incident.

Officials with Gilbert Public Schools say they’re cooperating with the police investigation.
