NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A judge has sentenced a man to 15 years in prison for carjacking a vehicle from a church parking lot in Irvington.

Under the No Early Release Act, 46-year-old Donald Higgs must serve nearly 13 years of the sentence before he’ll be eligible for parole.

A jury in March convicted Higgs of the 2014 carjacking and robbery.

Prosecutors say Higgs was previously convicted of a 1995 carjacking and received a 20-year prison sentence. He was released in 2004.

Higgs has a total of 40 prior arrests and 13 adult felony convictions, including burglary and receiving stolen property.
