COTTONWOOD, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a small plane crash-landed at Cottonwood Municipal Airport after the pilot forgot to lower the landing gear.

Cottonwood police and fire officials responded to a report of a Mooney M20G crashing about 10 a.m. Monday at the airport in north-central Arizona.

They say pilot James Gray of Cottonwood escaped injury.

His plane skidded nearly 600 feet before it came to a stop, sustaining damage to the undercarriage and propeller.

The plane was lifted by a crane and the gear was lowered before it was towed away.

The airport’s runway was closed for about an hour.

Authorities say the crash will be investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board.
