RIVERDALE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a man was shot and killed by police during a shootout near Atlanta.

Clayton County Police Chief Michael Register says the man died Monday night, after what began as a domestic dispute in the Riverdale area just south of Atlanta.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman Scott Dutton identified the dead man in a statement as 23-year-old Jabril Robinson.

Register tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (on-ajc.com/1ThHGeK) that Robinson ran from police responding to the dispute, tried to force his way inside a home and began shooting at officers, who returned fire.

Dutton said Robinson was struck multiple times by the officers’ gunfire. He said the GBI will investigate the shooting, and that an autopsy was planned for Tuesday.

The officer’s name wasn’t released. Further details about Robinson weren’t immediately available.
