LANSING, Mich. (AP) - A bill designed to make it easier for visitors from outside the United States to drive legally in Michigan during short visits is heading to Gov. Rick Snyder.
The Senate unanimously approved the bill Tuesday. The state House approved the legislation last week.
Motorists would need to show they are in the United States legally and have valid driver’s licenses in their home countries.
Rep. Stephanie Chang, a Democrat from Detroit, had feared the requirement could lead to racial profiling by police. She voted in favor of the bill after the House approved an amendment that she believes reduces that risk.
The bill now goes to Snyder for consideration.
