BALTIMORE (AP) - The Stronach Group has agreed to purchase one of Maryland’s two harness racing courses.

The purchase, from Penn National Gaming, adds Rosecroft Raceway in Prince George’s County to the Stronach Group’s portfolio, which already includes Pimlico Race Course and Laurel Park.

Although the sale remains subject to conditions including approval from the Maryland Racing Commission, Stronach officials say they expect the deal to be finalized in June.

Company officials say in a statement that they look forward to continue running harness races at the 67-year-old Fort Washington track, as well as continuing to expand throughout the state.

Maryland Jockey Club General Manager Sal Sinatra says Stronach is eager to operate the facility as a racing and simulcasting business.

Maryland’s other harness racing course is Ocean Downs in Ocean City.
