BREMEN, Germany (AP) - Veteran Peru forward Claudio Pizarro will stay at Werder Bremen for another season.

The Bundesliga club says in a statement that the 37-year-old Pizarro, whose contract was up at the end of this season, has extended the deal through June 2017.

Pizarro says “I feel very good and am happy to be able to play for another year for this special club.”

Pizarro’s 14 goals made him Bremen’s leading scorer in the 2015-16 Bundesliga season. He also scored twice in the German Cup. With 103 goals in 187 league games for Bremen, he is the club’s all-time leading scorer.

Pizarro also had two stints at Bayern Munich and a spell at Chelsea.

Bremen only secured Bundesliga survival on the last day of the season.
