PHOENIX (AP) - Rob Refsnyder is getting another shot with the New York Yankees after failing to make the big league roster out of spring training, and Chad Green is headed back to the minors after struggling in his major league debut.

The Yankees recalled infielder Refsnyder from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and optioned Green after the right-hander struggled in his major league debut in a series of moves on Tuesday.

New York also recalled right-hander Luis Cessa and lefty James Pazos from Scranton/Wilkes Barre, optioned right-hander Conor Mullee to the farm team and designated left-hander Phil Coke for assignment.

Refsnyder had a strong fall after being called up last season, hitting .302 with two homers and five RBIs in 16 games. He didn’t make New York’s opening-day lineup this season, though, after struggling to convert from second to third base.

“Refsnyder’s been swinging the bat really well and we wanted to get another position player here,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “I believe that I could use him at second, third and right, maybe even in left field in a pinch.”

Green struggled after being called up for a spot start, allowing six runs - four earned - and eight hits in four innings of 12-2 loss to Arizona Monday night.

Mullee hit a batter and walked three, including one with the bases loaded, in his first big-league outing. Coke allowed four runs in two innings and will have to decide whether to accept an assignment at Scranton/Wilkes Barre or become a free agent if he clears waivers.

“We’re trying to keep those bullpen arms fresh,” Girardi said.

Cessa made the Yankees out of spring training as a reliever, but was sent down after one appearance.

Pazos did not allow a run in 11 games with the Yankees last year. He was called up earlier this season but did not pitch.
