INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A school nurse who responded to a deadly school bus accident in Indianapolis is being honored.

The Indiana Emergency Services for Children Program said Wednesday that registered nurse Linda Bailey is the recipient of the 2016 Pediatric Hero Award. She was nominated for her work on Jan. 26 when a school bus struck and killed Amy Beverland Elementary Principal Susan Jordan and injured two students. Jordan is credited with pushing students to safety.

Officials with the program say Bailey “remained focused, determining the most immediate needs” during the accident. They say she triaged children as a first responder and acted quickly to care for the injured and help safely dismiss more than 700 students.

Bailey works for Community Health Network. She has been at Beverland for 12 years.
