LOS BANOS, Calif. (AP) - A police officer in the Central Valley has been arrested on suspicion of sexual contact with high school girls during his previous job as a teacher.

The Merced County District Attorney’s office says 37-year-old Los Banos police officer Dusty Norris was arrested on Wednesday. Prosecutors say Norris had sexual contact with female students while teaching construction technology at Los Banos High School between 2004 and 2007.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Harold Nutt said Norris would be charged in the next day or two. He did not know whether Norris had an attorney. A phone listing for Norris was disconnected, and a police dispatcher referred a call to the district attorney’s office.

Prosecutors say Norris was placed on administrative leave from the police department.
