CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities have identified the child who was struck and killed by an SUV and the driver involved in the incident.

Clarksville police spokeswoman Natalie Hall tells media outlets that 27-year-old Joseph Pennington was leaving a parking space Monday evening at a townhouse in South Clarksville. Before leaving in his Ford Expedition, he says he saw a child on a scooter farther up the road, but didn’t see any other children.

When Pennington started backing out, two people signaled for him to stop. He got out of the SUV and found that he had struck 2-year-old Delaney Mae-Lynn Jean Garner. She had been playing in a grassy area and crossed behind the SUV.

Hall says no one has been charged in the incident and that police don’t anticipate any charges.
