FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Fayetteville police have arrested a man who is accused of taking a vehicle with two children inside from a restaurant parking lot.

According to a release from the Fayetteville Police Department, 41-year-old Don Stevenson Wallace was arrested Tuesday and faces numerous charges, including two counts of first-degree kidnapping.

Officers responded Tuesday afternoon to a Southwest Fayetteville Pizza Hut after receiving a call reporting a kidnapping.

Court documents say a woman had left her car running in the restaurant parking lot with her 2-year-old and 3-year-old inside. She returned from the restaurant to the parking lot, and her car was missing.

Officers found the stolen car being driven by Wallace. When officers attempted to pull him over, he led police on a short chase.

Wallace eventually crashed into the backyard of a home.

Neither child was hurt.

It’s unclear if Wallace has an attorney.
