MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Police say a driver who fled from a traffic stop has died after crashing in Minneapolis.

Officers say they encountered a driver who was swerving and nearly struck their squad about 2 a.m. The officers pulled the man over, but he refused to roll down his window, then fled at a high rate of speed.

Authorities say the officers were in pursuit of the suspect when he struck a minivan at an intersection, then crashed into a vacant building.

Police say the driver was thrown from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the minivan wasn’t hurt.

The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting police with crash reconstruction.
