OBERLIN, La. (AP) - Former Elizabeth Mayor Robert “Bob” Crafton has pleaded not guilty to two counts of theft over $6,500, including making improper payments to town employees, vendors and himself while in office.
The American Press reports (https://bit.ly/1TZBE1Z ) the 79-year-old Crafton and his attorney, Ray Rush, entered the plea during a brief appearance Wednesday before state District Judge David Deshotels.
Trial is scheduled for Nov. 14.
Assistant State Attorney General Steve Martin, who specializes in white collar crime, is prosecuting the case after the Allen Parish District Attorney’s Office recused itself citing possible conflicts.
