LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Police in Las Cruces say they’ve arrested a 20-year-old man suspected of brandishing a kitchen knife and threatening his mother with it.
They say Jose Francisco Arriaga is being held on suspicion of one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a fourth-degree felony.
Police say Arriaga had five outstanding bench warrants for his arrest.
Officers were dispatched to a mobile home about 7 p.m. Monday.
They say Arriaga got into an argument with his 44-year-old mother, armed himself with a kitchen knife and threatened her with it.
He then fled the home while still armed with the knife.
An officer tracked Arriaga to a mobile home and say the suspect was attempting to hide inside a shower.
Arriaga briefly tried to elude officers before he was detained.
