ALPENA, Mich. (AP) - A mural displaying some of Alpena’s history will be removed and preserved before demolition of the former Alpena Power Co. building begins this summer.

The Alpena News reports (https://bit.ly/1THuFej ) the mural that outlines the history of Alpena Power and the city will be saved. It was painted in 12-foot sections in 1989.

The Target Alpena economic development organization, which is the current owner of the building, believes removing the mural is important because of its history. Economic Development Director Jim Klarich says that he hopes it can be reused at another Alpena location or recreated for display.

The newspaper says Klarich is in the process of promoting the riverside Alpena Power building property to potential developers.
