COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia is welcoming its newest residents: four sea lions and one harbor seal.

The State reports (https://bit.ly/1TmVKpA) that zoo members were able to get a first look at the sea lions Monday at Sea Lion Landing, a $12 million exhibit that has been years in the making.

The attraction marks the final phase of Destination Riverbanks - the zoo’s $36 million expansion and development project.

Curator of mammals John Davis says the sea lions are getting along well: 14-year-old Baja, 4-year-old Ranger, 4-year-old Maverick and 3-year-old P.J.

The harbor seal is Gambit, a 10-year-old male. Davis says Gambit hasn’t been introduced to the pool yet, but should be part of the attraction before the public opening.

Sea Lion Landing opens to the public on June 9.
