BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A western New York man accused of hitting his wife in the head with a gas can and dousing her with gasoline with the intention of setting her ablaze has been sentenced to serve 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison.

Erie County prosecutors say 58-year-old Leslie May of Buffalo fled the scene in late January when an upstairs neighbor knocked on the door because she heard a commotion and smelled gasoline.

May was taken into custody the following month and eventually found guilty in a Buffalo court of first-degree reckless endangerment. He was sentenced on Tuesday.
