JACKSON, Mich. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a driver who sped away from a traffic stop in southern Michigan and died after losing control of an SUV and crashing into a tree.
Michigan State Police say 19-year-old Devin Young of Jackson died in Monday’s crash.
Authorities say a Jackson County sheriff’s deputy had stopped him but as the deputy approached the SUV the driver took off. Witnesses estimated the SUV was going 60-70 mph before it crashed and burned in Jackson.
Police say they believe the driver died on impact or shortly afterward. State police are investigating.
