HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Hartford police have arrested a man in connection with a double homicide in the city.

Police announced Wednesday that 20-year-old Joseph Silva faces two counts of murder and several other charges in connection with the fatal shootings Monday night of 22-year-old Joshua Cortez, of Hartford, and 23-year-old Alysha Ocasio, of Newington.

Cortez was found in the street with a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. Ocasio was found in a vehicle with several gunshot wounds, and was taken to a hospital, where she died.

Silva is being held on $ 3 million bond pending an arraignment Wednesday. It’s not clear of he has a lawyer.

Police say the suspect was an acquaintance of both victims and the shooting was the result of “emotional circumstances.”
