WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Law enforcement officers in South Carolina are kicking off a summer driving safety campaign.

Agencies including the South Carolina Department of Public Safety are participating in a series of events around the state on Wednesday.

At 11 a.m., officers are gathering in West Columbia, Charleston and Landrum to kick off the “Buckle Up South Carolina” campaign reminding drivers and passengers to make sure they wear seat belts during the summer driving season.

Memorial Day, which is the unofficial start to summer, is May 30.
