GREER, S.C. (AP) - Four South Carolina middle school students have been charged with possession of child pornography and a fifth student has been charged with criminal sexual conduct in connection with the same case, authorities said Wednesday.
Greer police said in a statement released that an alleged sexual assault occurred over the weekend at a private residence in Greenville County and several students took part in a Facetime call that another student recorded.
One student sent the video to others, and when students shared the video at school Monday, one of them told a counselor, police said. About 10 cellphones were seized from students, police said.
Greenville County deputies said the fifth student was charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
Police say four are students at Riverside Middle School. Greenville County deputies don’t identify a school for the fifth student.
Greenville County schools said in a statement that the four Riverside students have been suspended and will be recommended for expulsion.
