Gates faces multiple charges including capital murder in the death of 55-year-old Charlie Williams, who was robbed and killed on Friday. His body was found by passing motorists that night.

After more than two days on the run, Gates called 911 on Monday to turn himself in on the charges, which also include armed robbery, grand larceny and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

Gates remains held at the Lee County-Tupelo Adult Jail. He returns to court July 5 for arraignment.
