TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities have arrested a Phoenix man suspected of stealing a bus in Tempe.
Tempe police say 53-year-old Samuel Chayrez is facing charges of motor vehicle theft, kidnapping and endangerment.
His bond was set at $5,000 at his initial court appearance Tuesday and doesn’t have an attorney yet.
Police say an Orbit bus was reported stolen Monday afternoon while the driver was meeting outside with another driver.
Two teenagers were on the bus at the time.
Police say the suspect drove the bus for a short distance, then abandoned it and fled on foot.
Officers located the bus later in a neighborhood and arrested Chayrez.
Orbit is a free service that uses small buses to serve residential areas and connect them to local destinations such as shopping areas and schools.
