SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - A northwestern Idaho woman has pleaded not guilty to failing to restrain her pet chicken that hopped a fence into a neighbor’s yard.

KXLY-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1rSJi88 ) that Cindy Tefft, of Spirit Lake, entered the plea in Kootenai County court Monday with her chicken named Grace, who is registered as a service animal, by her side.

Tefft says she has long had problems with the neighbor who reported that Grace had trespassed onto their property.

She says she doesn’t understand why her “chickens didn’t get any kind of warnings” before police gave her a ticket for the incident.

Tefft is planning to seek legal counsel to fight the case.
