BEVERLY, Mass. (AP) - Officials have identified the person who died in a house fire in Beverly.
The victim was 76-year-old Clark Young, Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett’s office said Thursday.
The fire happened Thursday at about 7 a.m. on Highland Terrace. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but officials said it appears to be accidental.
Beverly Police Chief John LeLacheur said it took firefighters about three hours to put out the blaze at the three-story home. He said five people were inside at the time and that police officers arriving first on scene helped carry two elderly women to safety.
But Young, a retired postal worker, was trapped in his first floor residence. His daughter Nicole Jacobs told WBZ-TV that her mother tried to save him before escaping but couldn’t.
