HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Two people from the Hilton Head Island area are getting rabies shots after they may have been exposed to a rabid raccoon.
The state Department of Health and Environmental Control said in a release that the two are being treated after their dog got into a fight with a raccoon that proved to be rabid.
The raccoon was confirmed to have rabies on May 11.
The dog was current on its rabies vaccine but is being held in quarantine for 45 days.
