LUCILE, Idaho (AP) - Authorities say two University of Idaho students are feared dead after their vehicle went off U.S. Highway 95 and became submerged in the Salmon River.

The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office says a search along the river banks after the Tuesday crash failed to find 20-year-old Cayla Danenberg or 21-year-old Tiffany Maupin, both of Nampa.

Authorities in a statement late Wednesday say river conditions are making it too dangerous for divers to get near the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office hasn’t said when an attempt to get to the submerged 2004 Nissan Maxima might be made.

A dispatcher on Thursday declined to comment.
