CLEVELAND (AP) - The acting U.S. attorney for northern Ohio has been nominated to keep that job as the region’s top federal prosecutor.

Sens. Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman had recommended Carole Rendon and praised President Barack Obama’s nomination of her Wednesday.

Brown says Rendon’s experience would be beneficial in tasks such as helping to oversee security for the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this summer and monitoring the city’s agreement with the Department of Justice that’s aimed at reforming the police department.

Rendon worked for the federal prosecutor in Massachusetts and in private practice before joining the U.S. attorney’s office in northern Ohio in 2009. She’s been acting U.S. attorney since February, when Steven Dettelbach resigned from the role.
