ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) - High school students and parents in Astoria are complaining that they had to pay a fee to snap photos on prom night at the Astoria Column.

The Daily Astorian reports (https://is.gd/DNRfj7 ) that the city in January raised the price of an annual pass to the monument from $2 to $5, but the fee had not been aggressively collected in the past. Parents say they didn’t hear about the fee until prom night rolled around, when almost all Astoria High School seniors arrived to pose in their finery.

The Column is a city park, but the grounds are managed by the Friends of the Astoria Column, a nonprofit.

Members of the City Council on Monday suggested that perhaps the parking fee could be waived for students on prom night.
