NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (AP) - A New York man charged with raping a 5-year-old girl in Massachusetts in 2001 has taken the stand in his own defense to deny the allegations.

The Daily Hampshire Gazette (https://bit.ly/1TqY8wX ) reports that Guy Bush Jr. testified on Wednesday when asked about the case that he “absolutely” did not abuse the girl.

Prosecutors allege the 47-year-old Bush, of Grand Island, New York, molested the girl in her bedroom on multiple occasions while living in South Hadley. Bush knew the girl’s family but is not related.

His attorney says it would have been impossible for Bush to molest the girl because she shared a bedroom with a sister. But the now 19-year-old woman says the abuse occurred before she started sharing a bedroom.

The jury will continue deliberating Thursday after starting Wednesday.
