MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) - Mount Pleasant in suburban Charleston is now the 10th fastest-growing town in the United States.

Estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau on Thursday show that the town’s population in 2015 was just over 81,000 people. That’s a nearly 5 percent increase over 2014.

The figures show the fastest-growing community in America was Georgetown, Texas, in the Austin area.

Mount Pleasant is in the Charleston metropolitan area, which itself is one of the 20 fastest growing regions in the county. Two of the others in the Top 20 are also on the South Carolina coast - the Myrtle Beach area and the Beaufort-Hilton Head Island area.

Mount Pleasant is also the fourth-largest community in South Carolina. Only Columbia, Charleston and North Charleston have more people.
