CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire lawmakers are entering one of most chaotic and unpredictable periods of the year as the session winds to a close.
Both the House and Senate meet Thursday to decide whether to form “committees of conference” on a variety of bills. These committees are formed when both chambers pass different versions of the same bill. The other chamber can ask for a committee to negotiate the differences, agree to the changes or throw the bill out entirely.
Once committees are formed, expect public and backroom deal making and at least a few unexpected changes.
Bills potentially up for negotiation deal with funding to fight the opioid crisis, decriminalizing the possession of marijuana and banning the practice of gay conversion therapy for minors, among many others.
